Mirror starts out as regular clear glass. A reflective coating is applied to one surface and then coated again to protect the delicate reflective coating. Today’s mirrors are electro-plated, which makes the delicate portion very durable. A good quality mirror has a 20-year warranty from defects to the reflective coating.

Insulating glass is two panes of glass sealed together with an air space between the two panes. This air space creates the insulating value. Over time the seal breaks down and allows moist air to penetrate the seal and condensate, creating water and stains. The only remedy is to replace the insulating glass with a new factory fabricated piece.

Tempered glass is a heat-treated glass that is ten times stronger than regular glass. If tempered glass does break it will shatter into small dime-size pieces unlike the long shards of regular glass. Some common uses of tempered glass are car doors, doors in your home and skylights, to name a few.
